Performing Bluegrass & Acoustic Music - Class 1 3 weeks 6 days ago #9403

Hello Everyone

We had a nice turn out for the first week. Here are some of the things we dicussed.

1. Basic theory was discussed, including the musical alphabet and major scale
2. The I, IV, V chord progression was addressed relative to playing a song.
3. Back up and rhythm was demonstrated
4. The class played a progression of 12 bar blues with a basic strum

Please feel free to post your questions and comment.

Next week we will begin our first song "Amazing Grace" Print this out and bring it to class.

Hello Dave,

I’m a little lost regarding the scales. I was thinking that major scales were the progression up the neck omitting the sharp/flat notes. After failing the first scales quiz and reviewing my notes, it looks like the progression starts with the open note, on the string that you are playing the scale on, and then progresses up the neck in the following steps “2,2,1,2,2,2,1”. I saw nothing in the lesson intro that describes this and I do not recall how or why this is done this way. This discussion may be better addressed in a classroom setting... is there an easy answer to this? I’m just trying to make sense of it so it’s easier to remember.

Thank you sir,
Charlie

Hi Dave,
My computer wont allow me to download TEFview..Apparently my computer thinks the tef.exe is unsafe to download and was blocked by my SmartScreen Filter

I got it for my phone, but I don't know how to download the 4 songs for the class to the app.

Perhaps you still need to authorize me to do so, since I just paid my fees tonight for the BG class and the Mando/banjo class.
Thanks,
Karen

If your computer won't allow you to download the tef program, it is likely due to your virus protection software on your computer. The Tabedit site is a reliable site but has no relationship to the fretmentor website. You have to allow your firewall (via your virus protetection software) to allow access to that particular site. You must have the Tef viewer on your computer prior to being able to view Tef files, so authorizing you to download the files will not help you access them.

Hope this helps.
