Adult Guitar - Class #4 6 days 4 hours ago #9445

Hello Everyone

In this weeks class we discussed the following:

First, the class played the following major chords: C, A, G, E and D

Bass notes for each chord and basic strumming was addressed.

The scale was reviewed as it related to building a major chord and a melody line. We talked about chord progressions in detail.

The chord progression for the song Silent Night was reviewed and demonstrated.

I explained in detail what a major chord is, using both the piano and the guitar to demonstrate the chords and we wrote out a chord on the board.

Questions

What is a scale and how is it used to play a song?

What is a melody line?

What is the Key to a song?

What is a typical three chord progression.

For this week you should play the following chords progressions.

G. C and D
A, D, and E
D, G and A

Why are we playing these chord progressions.

Continue playing the song Silent Night and Simple Gifts. We will look at the lead play more in the next class.

not sure we went over much of silent night, don't remember any demonstration or playing of it, i would like some instruction on how to read and play the silent night arrangement melody line chart
also would think i need more basic strumming instruction if thats possible
doesn't seem like we use the instrument much in class
and i am still kind of lost on keys to a song and bass notes

Thank you for your comment.

While you may feel the class is not being taught at the pace you feel it should be, keep in mind that it is a class of close to a dozen people. It will be taught at a level that ensures that all people feel comfortable about moving forward. That is why private lessons are available to those who seek additional instruction at an individual pace they require. Not all people in a class are at the same level. so patience is required in a classroom setting.

In the last class, you did use your instrument more, playing each chord and bass note with strums as demonstrated. Since not all the students were comfortable in changing chords at the last class, your assignment this week is to learn your chord changes with strumming As I mentioned in class, we will be going over melody lines and the melody line of the song in the next class. The chord structure and strumming for the song Silent Night was reviewed at the last class
