TOPIC: Tuning is More Complicated than meets the Ear.

Re:Tuning is More Complicated than meets the Ear. 13 years 5 months ago #4467

Very interesting, knew nothing about "sweetners" but I have caught myself on occasion tweeking a string up or down even though the tuner shows the right note.

Wonder what is the resolution of you run of the mill tuner? Is it 1/2 step?

Yeah, my violin teacher was really upset when all the different phone companys got different dial tones. It used to be that the dial tone was a perfect "A", and you could tune to that.

I have found that cold weather has a large effect on keeping the guitar in tune. In the winter time when I am in New Jersey I must re-tune the guitar every day. In Florida I need to re-tune the guitar for the first week or so after putting on new strings. I like the light strings, easier on my callused fingers.

FYI, there is 100 cents in every semitone so the frequency span of each cent increases as the pitch increases. Intellitouch claims that their mini is +/- 1 cent. The Petersons are +/- 1/10 cent. I think the "sweeteners are fairly small adjustments (a small fraction of a semitone).
