We practiced proper strumming techniques and proper ways to hold the pick while strumming. We played the chords to Tom Petty's Mary Jane strumming chords A minor, G, and D using a DDUDDD pattern. The pick is to be held loosely between the thumb and forefinger and the hand should be open with full strumming motion across the strings near the top of the sound hole. The strumming motion should come from the elbow and not the wrist (do not hold the pick tightly, do not strum near the bridge, and do not chop the strings while strumming).
