Historically, radio stations helped promote music of various genres. This station card from WSM, the "Home of the Grand Old Opry", is from 1973. WWVA promotes itself as the "Home of the World Famous Jamboree, USA" in its card dated, as well, from 1973.

 

WSM 650 AM is billed as the home of the Grand Old Opry and the station that brought country music to American since 1925.

 

In January, 1933, a radio program was conceived for late Saturday night listeners.  Utilizing local talent, a show called the "Jamboree" was aired.  On January 7, 1933,  WWVA aired country music's WWVA Jamboree and the listener response to the unique program was overwhelming.
