A Variation on stringing guitars before bedtime

I once owned a 12 string guitar -(in the days of hootennanies!) - and stringed it before bedtime - One doesn't realize how much tension there is on the neck of a 12-string. During the night I could hear the strings 'settling' - with quick sharp 'sproing' sounds! all night!. The next day it was fine - needed another tuneup - but was settled. Message: - never string a 12 string guitar before bedtime - early morning is preferable.

On 12 strings, are the extra strings tuned up 1 octave, or the same? was curious on the "normal" tuning.

all smaller strings are tuned up one octave except the B and the high E

remember to fret your strings as well as playing open when tuning. sometimes that will help determine if you're on the lower or upper end of being in tune. for example when I tune my low E and the digital reading goes green, I'll fret a C and it's sharp which means I over-tuned.

George, i didn't know that. I guess you could also fret @ the 12th and see if the octave is correct?
