TOPIC: Electric Mandolin

Re:Electric Mandolin 12 years 4 months ago #6267

In my pic you can see my Rigel A+ mandolin. One reason I bought it is because it plugs in so sweet. There's an internal pickup that is irrelevant unless you want to plug in, and then it sounds nice and natural. I also have a 5-string electric that looks like a telecaster that was in the dryer too long!

Welcome to the forum Bo -

We have come a long way from the old days of the traditional mandolin.

Send me a picture of those electric mandolins and I will add them to our Show Your Axe gallery.

I thought tripping over 6 strings was enough, try something 1/3 smaller with double the strings? i don't think so. My mind can only grasp 1 instrument at a time.

I gig louder venues with a cheapo Applause MAE 148 Elec Mando....New @ 349.00

Does come in handy though rather than using a mic and being glued to the mic stand...even with an area mic...I'd rather be able to move around and still be heard.
People do occasionally wince at it as we play hardcore bluegrass and the elec. is a bit unacceptable in some locales.

I have an electric mandolin that I bought at a garage sale ~ 2 years ago. Its a foreing made instrument, dont know if Japan or Korea. I researched the make when I bought it but I forgot.
Anyway, the thing stays in tune, has very good string action, and sounds pretty good with and without an amp. I would be glad to let you borrow it (and an AMP) for a while if nothing else, so you have a basis for comparison. Let me know if you want it and well make arrangements.
