Fretmentor's Basic Banjo 101

Right Hand Technique & the Forward Roll

Playing the five-string banjo requires significant practice in the use of right hand rolls.  After all, in order to become proficient at playing songs, you have to first establish yourself at playing basic techniques such as rolls.  The amount of time you invest in rolls will pay big dividends.  The video below (which can also be seen at Fretmentor's You Tube Channel) provides an introduction to the forward roll.  Included are various examples of the forward roll and a brief discussion about timing issues relative to playing rolls in 3/4 and 4/4 time.  Good luck and practice hard.
