Yeah, i'm with Silvia on that. I would practice the tunes slower, like around 55 BPM or so, and progressively speed it up as your accuracy allows. If you make a mistake, like hit a wrong note, start over. As a finger player, you're used to playing faster (like finger rolls) Your brain to right hand technique is programmed for the busy-ness of fingerstyle, whereas with a pick, you have to be accurate. I understand what you're talking about, because i'm the exact opposite. All of my playing has been pick only, and i'm trying to learn finger style, it's more to keep track of. Like with 3 finger travis picking, Thumb/middle/thumb/index.... (i like to anchor my pinky near the sound hole) I have to think when i'm playing....did i use my index or my middle....? I'm just practicing chord arpeggios to get used to the style. There is definitely a mind/body connection there, call it muscle memory, whatever, and it has to be trained either way.
