I attended the Sugar Grove Festival near Boone, NC while I was in the NC, VA, Tenn. area in early July. The two day festival was originally known as "Doc Watson Appreciation Days" and was a great laid back low key venue with only about 1200 attendees good food and no visible alcohol. I would recommend it to those who don't care for the large festivals that have 5 or 6 bands playing at the same time.
The headliners were Doc Watson, the Kruger Bros, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and others. All were great and major performances were held under a very large tent that seated 1000 people.
Also headlining were the ETSU Pride, the Bluegrass band from East Tennessee State University (were I went to grad school). Interestingly, ETSU currently offers a minor in Bluegrass and they announced that within two years they would be the first college to offer a BS degree in Bluegrass.
I was the unpaid Fretmentor representative at the festival (I wore my tee shirt). Additionally, while in Boone I represented Fretmentor by visiting Appalachian State University to commemorate their win over the Un. of Michigan in football.
