Django Reinhardt music 14 years 2 months ago #2431

For those interested in the gypsy jazz guitar era of Django Reinhardt catch the movie "Sweet and Lowdown" through Netflixs or where ever. This 1999 movie was written, directed and narrated by Woody Allen, but don't let that scare you. It is not majorly neurotic like most of Woody's work! and actually is a cute comedy with a considerable amount of guitar playing.

The movie features Emmet Ray (played by Sean Penn)who is the second best jazz guitarist at that time. It also helped launch Samantha Morton who plays the deaf mute girlfriend.

I have a 6 cd set that if anyone would like to take a listen, I'd be happy to lend it.

I read an interview with BB King a few years ago. He was asked how he practiced. He said "I practice some scales and Django Rheinhardt tunes."

I sort of liked it. It's hard to take any Sean Penn role seriously. :silly:

I've got a bunch of Django collections. I really like what he did in the 40s and early 50s. He got into electric playing and be bop a little. Django in Rome is a great boxed set. It's pretty cheap too!
