I have found that learning to play more than one instrument has helped me a lot. The guitar was my first string instrument and since it was the first one, it was the hardest....(I'm still learning but I can fake it pretty good
) Then I picked up the mandolin and the strumming on the mando was and is quite difficult for me, but the leads come fairly easy....then the fiddle bug hit me and although the holding of the bow is a killer once you have that somewhat in control, the playing gets a lot easier.... and it's a lot of fun....you get bored or tired with one instrument and you can go to another one...
. I do get confused when we are playing in class and I want to play a melody that goes with the instrument that is at home.....but I'm writing this for those of you that are thinking about another instrument....go for it...it's like learning a foreign language...the first one is the hardest....the second and third are a lot easier...and you can relate things a lot better....what I didn't quite get with the guitar
...the mando and fiddle helped me understand...and yes, I'm still a work in progress on all three (4 I should say, if I include the piano, wait, 5...I forgot the ukulele
)
