TOPIC: Alternate Tuning

Alternate Tuning 15 years 2 months ago #460

I've recently tried some alternate tuning after reading some articals in the guitar mags. Not that I've come close to mastering the fret board in standard tuning, but there are some easy chord shapes that make it easy to experiment with if you ever get bored being normal. So far my favorite is DADF#AD. It's fun with a slide and works great with 12 bar blues.

i like standard tuning! anything else is too much work. As a rank novice, i try to get as much time out of my 1 hour window as i can. de-tuning and re-tuning bites into that time too much. Of course, you most likely have more time under your fingers than i, so you can be more creative. Here's how lazy i am. I like the Stevie Nicks tune "Landslide". A nice acoustic fingerpick tune. When i found i had to tune 1/2 step flat, i shyed away from it! I don't think i can judge yet in my musical journey if alternate tunings are good or bad. I do know this much....i have to master the guitar as it comes out of the box 1st!:woohoo:

I'm with you Dave2311...and when I get totally frustrated I switch to my other tuning method...I hand my guitar over to Sam and he tunes it for me (shhhh!!! don't tell the other Dave  )
