I'll tell you this...often times, an hour isn't enough. 10-15 minutes warming up playing scales, 10-15 min. playing chord progressions to work on smoother chord changes, 10-15 min. going over familiar tunes, 10-15 min on our new tunes. If i have extra time, i'll try a new Top-40 or rock song. Currently i'm trying Bon Jovi's "Wanted: Dead or Alive". Just the intro alone is a fun challenge. Moving arpeggio dyads under a D-string drone, starting at the 14th fret, and going down to the 1st. My roofer, who is a guitarist, played this song on my instrument, and it sounded good. Would sound better if it was played on a 12 string, like the original. The challenge is walking the fretboard smoothly without breaks to keep the intro continuous. For fingerpicking, i'm working on Dave's tabbed out Kansas song, "Dust in the Wind". I'm still practicing the finger roll, it's a fast song.
